Album & Tour Context:

Promoting “Volta” (2007), an album returning to the energetic sound of her early work with political themes. Collaborators on the album included Timbaland, Antony Hegarty (Antony and the Johnsons), and Konono N°1.

Special Notes:

First Roman performance in seven years. Support act: Ricardo Villalobos (DJ set). Part of ticket proceeds donated to UNICEF’s “Born Free from HIV” campaign. The song “Declare Independence” became a political statement throughout the tour, dedicated to various independence movements.
